Your Skin Care Routine
Need to put together a Greenwood Farm Skin Routine? Here's the lowdown!
Greenwood Farm Skincare is the perfect choice for all people, of all ages and all skin types. As many of you may know, I formulate all the skin care products with organic, natural and sustainable raw ingredients that contain no chemicals and usually no 'extras' like fragrances. I research each and every ingredient and testers are made up and tested multiple times under strict blind testings and situations. I only release the products for sale, once they meet our strict criteria and quality control, so you can be guaranteed they work a beaut!
Today, were going step by step through a typical skin care routine, so you know what to use when. Lets get started!
Cleansing the skin is the number one thing you can do to get clear, soft, great
looking skin. Washing away the days dirt, grime and makeup (if worn) is essential for good skin.
We have many soaps available, but for me? Its always our Coconut Castille Soap. Made with only 3 ingredients, this soft lathery soap, gives you that squeaky clean feel without any of the tightness involved. I love the way it washes away any trace of the days make up and dirt. It leaves my skin alive and
soft and ready for the next step in the process.
Twice a week I use a body and face scrub.
We have 5 different varieties of scrub, and the only choice is, which one do you
love the smell of? Of course Im a fan of our signature scent - Smells Like a Mother, and I love this for my body, it leaves my skin soft, smooth and touchable..... lucky Paulie!
For my face though, I just love the Milk and Honey Body Scrub. I mix a small amount in the palm of my hand and add a little water, I apply the scrub and gently move my hands in a circular motion over my entire face, cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. Once its quite moist, I use my little pinky fingers to gently massage into my eye sockets and temples..... gently does it with this area as the skin is really fragile!
You've all seen it..... the face mask! We spend our Friday or Saturday nights with
our jammie pants on, a tub of ice cream, a face mask...... and a movie. We have 4 different Greenwood Farm Face Masks to choose from. There is another blog post on the benefits of each one below, so take a peek at it after you finish this blog.
I only do a mask once a month, I find this is enough for my skin, if you have problem or acne skin, you may wish to do one more often.
Masks do a great job of removing the gunk, the heavy metals, the caked in foundation and a super human job of cleaning out deep in the pores. Greenwood Farm masks all have drawing properties, this means, they cling to skin, sink into pores and draw out the crap. Some, like our Bentonite Mask are a powerful drawing treatment for skin, and some people, myself included feel a tingling or throbbing sensation on the skin, and afterwards a gentle glow is noticed, so you know its worked.
Choose a mask that best suits your needs - the former blog post will be able to guide you as to which one to choose. If in doubt, feel free to contact me and I can direct you in the right direction based on your skins needs.
You've all heard about serums, oils and expensive conditioning balms that work
magic on the skin..... the truth? Most of them dont work and you will spend the sum of a Bali holiday in your lifetime trying to find the fountain of youth!
This one is easy, Frankincense Essential Oil. Its called the King of Oils. The 3 wise men got it right when they bought the baby Jesus the Frankincense!
Frankincense oil is from the genus Boswellia and sourced from the resin of the Boswellia carterii, Boswellia ferreana or Boswellia serrata trees that’s commonly grown in Somalia and regions of Pakistan. This tree is different from many others in that it can grow with very little soil in dry and desolate conditions.
The word frankincense comes from the term “franc encens,” which means quality incense in old French.
Frankincense has the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone, elasticity, defence mechanisms against bacteria or blemishes, and appearance as someone ages. It may help tone and lift skin, reduce the appearance of scars and acne, and heals wounds. It may also be beneficial for fading of stretch marks, surgery scars or marks associated with pregnancy, and for healing dry or cracked skin.
According to a review published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, frankincense oil reduces redness and skin irritation, while also producing a more even skin tone. Studies suggest that it’s the pentacyclic triterpene (steroid-like) structure of frankincense oil that contributes to its soothing effect on irritated skin.
If you’re purchasing essential oils, avoid oils that say “fragrance oil” or “perfume oil” as these can be synthetic and don’t provide the desired health benefits. Instead, look for oils that say “pure essential oil” or “100% essential oil” for the highest quality essential oils. I simply pop a couple of drops on my skin after cleansing or my mask and pat gently into my skin. The smell is somewhat strong, but after a while it softens and becomes very floral and gorgeous.
Yep, we all crave it. That tight scratch feeling that we get when the skin is dry.
Ive spent a small fortune over the last 30 years coveting and purchasing the latest greatest moisturiser only to find that it broke my skin out in a rash, caused acne, had WAY too much perfume or actually dried out my skin more.
The first skin care product I actually created was our Milk and Honey Body Butter. When I say Body Butter, it really is for face and body, all over the skin. It can be used by any body, any time. There are of course varieties including Milk and Honey, Coconut, Smells Like a Mother, Rose Garden our Beard Balm for Blokes, and our new Healing Balm. The core ingredients are the same, but of course several different essential oils and butters are added to give the different varieties....... for me? I use the Milk and Honey Body Butter every day and again every night without fail!
Being a good child of the 70's and 80's has left me with a mass of skin problems. I head off to see my dermatologist every 3 months and over the last few years have had my fair share of 'skin scares'. Therefore I never forget to apply sun protection. I have a big bottle on my dressing table, and apply it on all exposed bits of skin depending on the tasks or clothing of the day.
I also carry a small tube in my handbag AND car.... and reapply every 4 hours. After a few trips to the skin cancer doctors, you kinda think its not work the time on the operating table, and my 4 kids will tell you I nag the crap out of them to apply sun protection each and every time they head outdoors!
In the long run, a tan it just not worth it.... save you pennies and head off for a spray tan or an apply at home one! No surgery required!
